Where the animtion will show.

I finished the first draft of the animation the other day and sent it to Alex Horne. today I received an E-Mail back and he loves it. Once it's all done, the animation will first be shown at the Edinburgh Festival throughout August. After that, they don't know where else, but whenever they do their show. They usually do runs in London or tours all about the place so look out for it and please show your support. New Project

I have abandoned my original project now in favour of a commission from Alex Horne, comedian responsible for the Horne Section on BBC radio 4. it is an animation for a song of his called Human Race, but because it is a commission that is still in production, I cannot post any details about it online.

My final models with armatures

Probably should have put these up ages ago.

When making them, one broke. I attempted to fix it but in the end cut it out and put a new one in.

Been off

The last week I have been off because of a problem with my leg. I have had to rest it and have got crouches; this week doesn’t look too promising ether as it has shown no signs of getting better. Now I'm not sure if given the time I have left I will be able to complete my film, so I will hopefully be going in soon to talk about what I'm going to do with my tutor.

Anomatic

Today and yesterday I have been working on my anomatic. Using the storyboard I have had to cut all 200 pictures out on the computer, this took quite a while. Then taking on the comments from my storyboard adviser I have redone some of the shots and put them into the mix.

The next task was to record the sound. I had already done this but after I went to add it to the anomatic I realised that since I had last recorded it the script had changed, so I have to reread it all and also add sound effects. But before I can add any found I have to resize all the pictures too. So this should be all done by the evening.

After this is done I can start to do my armatures, witch finally arrived on Saturday, but I had already scheduled to be doing my contextual essay for the weekend.

I have however made a plasticine man to get an idea of what size my people will be and how big I need to make the wire frame for each person. I sent these measurements to the person who is making my sets, who will be starting construction soon and should be sending me designs he has done after looking at my ones within the next day or two.

Feedback from Storyboard adviser

Hello Ronan,

I've looked over your story board for your animation and I think it's brilliant, I was giggling to myself the whole time.

In all I think the shots are great, there are just a few suggestions I have for angles on a few frames:

Frames 8 and 10.. Maybe if you were looking down a little on Monty. It would make him appear more vulnerable and worried and would show a difference in urgency between him and Brian.

Frame 21.. You could do a panning up shot of the cucumber rocket in the garden (like the shot of the rocket they do in Wallace and Gromet).. Alternately you could put a panning up shot in when Monty asks the professor "could we use the rocket that looks like a cucumber in your garden" --> panning shot of rocket --> swipe back to characters when professor reveals it's just a large cucumber...

Frame 29.. Maybe you could pan across the lab before settling on characters?

Frame 35.. Possible when they look at each other instead of just a shot of them looking at each other you could use a comic book style split screen of just the eyes looking at each other.. It may be a bit out of place but could work...

Frame 50... Same as 29, you could possibly pan around the bar to get a closer look at some of the background characters

Frame 102.. If you looked upwards at the characters it would make them appear bigger and more heroic

Frame 110... POV shot from guard? Would be a good contrast from them looking big and heroic to looking small and puny compared to the big guard

Frame 111.. POV shot looking up from characters. Reiterates the guard being big and strong.

I hope you find these suggestions of help to you. Other than those few ideas I think the shots look great. Good luck with your animation and I look forward to seeing it when it's done!

Regards

Steph House

Next step

I’ve not written on here for a while mainly due to the fact of Christmas, and that my Nan died over that holiday, so I’ve been a little distracted from work. Now I think I’m back on track. I just finished my storyboard, and as I'm not the best at camera shots I’ve got my friend Steph who does photography to look over it for me.

Also on the subject of sets, I was given the task of making one over the holiday, but got annoyed with the one I was doing and stopped. My tutors still want me to move away from cardboard. I'm making one out of that at the moment but now have someone with a degree in industrial design to do them. In his previous job he made dolls houses, and that’s ideal for me.

On my recent tutorial as well we talked bout how the ending of the film wasn’t very good. I did agree, the truth is that I'm not very good at ending thing. But in the end when I got home I came up with the perfect ending. As the film pokes fun at itself throughout, it will cut to the filmmaker and producer talking about how the film has a rubbish ending as a last jab at it.
